Our History

As the recycling industry has changed, GLR has continued to grow and adapt along with it. From expanding our services and facility operations to working with new materials and technologies, each step has played a part in shaping GLR into who we are today!

1927
GLR was founded with a focus on paper and rag recycling

1969
GLR began recycling nonferrous metals
1988
GLR began recycling ferrous metals

1990
GLR recycled their first electronic devices
1992
GLR began processing residential curbside recyclables

2001
Became the first recycler in Michigan to accept mixed single stream recyclables
2005
GLR formed their electronic-scrap recycling division

2008
From 2008-2016, GLR opened 10 more locations in both South-East,
MI as well as Western, NY before all (but one) were sold by 2020
2023
GLR continued its electronic recycling operations in Oak Park, MI.
In 2023, they expanded their services to include EV battery recycling

2025
GLR moved to a 60,000-square-foot facility near the heart of Detroit, MI, where the company continues to recycle electronic waste and EV hybrid batteries!
